A mother in Australia whose premature newborn was pronounced dead said she stirred him back to life by using a method known as "kangaroo care."
Kate Ogg was told her son, Jamie, had died after efforts to resuscitate him failed shortly after his birth. But when doctors placed the baby across his mother's bare chest so his parents could say goodbye, Kate Ogg and her husband, David, said he began showing signs of life. After five minutes, Jamie began displaying short, startled movements. As his parents looked on, the baby's movements became more pronounced. Doctors maintained the movements were purely reflex, but two hours later, Jamie opened his eyes. “We thought, ‘What a blessing, we get to see his eyes before he passes away,’ ” Kate Ogg said Friday on NBC's "Today" show. “But they stayed open.” The couple was practicing what Australians call “kangaroo care," in which an infant is held skin-to-skin to their mother or father, generating heat for the newborn much like a baby kangaroo receives in its mother’s pouch. Jamie continued to come around as he lay across Kate’s chest, grabbing at his parents' fingers. And when Kate Ogg put a dab of breast milk on her finger, Jamie eagerly accepted it. “We thought, ‘He’s getting stronger -- he’s not dead,’ ” Kate Ogg said. The skeptical doctor wouldn't return to their bedside until they asked him to explain the death further. Kate Ogg told the London Daily Mail the doctor was in disbelief when he arrived back at the bedside. “He got a stethoscope, listened to Jamie’s chest and just kept shaking his head," she said. "He said, ‘I don’t believe it, I don’t believe it.’” Jamie and his twin sister, Emily, are now healthy 5-month-olds. David Ogg gave all the credit to his “very strong, very smart wife." “She instinctively did what she did,” David Ogg told The Daily Mail. “If she hadn’t have done that, then Jamie probably wouldn’t be here.” |

Oops! I just saw that the label said they are "red" grapes.

I just found out that purple grapes are nothing but green grapes with purple skin! Did they really think I wouldn't notice?

Sep 6 1901
While shaking hands at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York, President William McKinley is shot twice in the abdomen at point-blank range with a .32 caliber revolver. He dies a week later. The assassin, an anarchist by the name of Leon Frank Czolgosz, actually is a lone gunman (for once). Sep 6 1951 During a drinking party in Mexico City, author William S. Burroughs instructs his wife Joan to balance a glass of gin on her head. He then takes careful aim with his new .38 pistol, and unintentionally blows her brains out in front of their friends. The Mexican authorities later charge Burroughs with criminal imprudence. Sep 6 1966 Parliamentary messenger Demetrios Tsafendas assassinates Prime Minister Hendrik Verwoerd, by sticking a knife in his chest on the floor of the South African legislature. The apartheid system had been Verwoerd's brainchild. Sep 6 1986 In Istanbul, two Arab terrorists step inside the Neve Shalom synagogue on Buyuk Hendek Street during Sabbath services. They unload into the worshippers with submachine guns and grenades, killing 22 and wounding six. The incident is later attributed to Abu Nidal's terror organization. |

What is wrrng with below statement?
What is wrng with helping one-another when the chips are down? If someone needs a crust of bread don't hoard yours for yourself. Give him your beer, a bed, some securtiy for a few days and then put him on his way. If you help no one God will never notice you. Be fair, be kind, keep your negative thoughts inside of you.

I think that round little green man sweeping dirt under a rug is so typical of men. If you have to clean your own house or mouth do it right. If someone has another take on the green man, spit it out!

Sounds like you have a case of herpes. Easy for many to get rid of, but some have them for life. Guess we have to inspect our partners no matter what they think or feel. I don't want any SOB costing me money because their dishonest.

That a choice between what you have and what you really want is a choice. A choice between two things that you don't want is not making a choice, it is accepting defeat.
For a generation that has championed the word "CHOICE" you seem to want to limit the word to a choice between two negatives. Since when does a poet limit the possibilities?? |
I can't even imagine.
A choice between two things you don't want isn't much of a choice Tony. More like accepting an unfortunate alternative.

'And so it Goes'
I live this life a poor man. Blessed with an ability to create with words. Cursed with inner demons and a raging case of herpes. Move forward say the voices. No pretentions here. I am what I appear to be: Troubled, Hopeful, Real. Maybe someday my words will be appreciated. Right now the rent is due and my Burger King uniform needs to be washed before my midnight shift. And so it goes. |

'Pigeon Droppings'
The hole in my roof lets the sun shine in. Like rays of hope, the light shines down and washes my face in warmth. Sometimes the pitter patter of rain on my forehead wakes me and other times I watch the starlit sky. The pigeon shit on my eyebrow brings me back to the reality of the hole in my roof. |

'The sores on my penis'
My boyfriend was some weird Haitian IV drug user. Didn't matter, Didn't matter He had purple spots from head to toe. Didn't matter, Didn't matter I now have sores on my penis. Now it matters, Now it matters. |

I admit it though--I ought to take him out more . . . sometimes he IS okay and it's only when someone is coming right to this building that he has a problem . . . if someone is going to a different building he's okay . . . I just kind of got lazy about it too because he seems to not ever really ask to go out . . . I ask him if he wants to play da bird and he comes right over but I ask if he wants to go out and he's not so enthusiastic . . .
Marco doesn't seem to enjoy being outside much . . . he's okay for a while and then if he sees someone walking toward the building he TOTALLY freaks . . . sometimes he freaks out even if there's no one there . . . he doesn't care to go out on the balcony either anymore (which is good because he could fall) . . . I actually do think he has been abused and maybe ran away from something like that because I've NEVER seen a cat so afraid of strangers . . . he's all right if ONE person (other than me) comes into my place but two or more at once? . . . he runs and hides under the bed . . .
so what happened with the going out on the leash? I thought Marco had finally learned to enjoy that a bit.
There is always a choice, either you accept what life hands you or you do something about it....everyone can do something about their situation. Saying that they had no choice is total bulldroppings.

Ziva is a manx. Her tail looks like a sidewise J.
She has the most beautiful eyes and her boldness and fearlessness is only surpassed by her loving nature. We rescued her at the Animal Control Center when she was ready to go into heat. I don't know how old that is, but we had her spayed and she has taken over the house, to the dismay of the minpins. And boy can she fill up a litter box. Pumkin the stray 57 red neck hound has finally been admitted into the pack. She is three times bigger than they are but doesn't know it. She is taut like a steel cable and fast. She bays like a hound, with ears like a Basset. And she has knocked me down on several occassion. Ex |

Marco is going stir crazy being an indoor cat 24/7 . . . I've been playing da bird with him once or twice a day to tire him out . . . when he starts to go on the prowl throughout the place crying out I know he needs to exercise a bit . . . he's SO good though about letting me sleep and not making a ruckus in the middle of the night . . . he's considerate that way . . .

I believe that the good Lord said, not to build your home on a flood plain because you're sure to get it one day.
That goes for the coastal area's that churn up hurricanes each year. And, Anne you're so right about those that don't have cars and can't evacuate to higher grounds, but why try telling that to a know-it-all? They'd be the first ones to drive by a poor car-less person not offering them a ride, as that would put them out. |
hi sweetie - how's the lil tailless cat doing? Is it a manx or just a cat without its tail?
Didja hear about the cab going right through the plate glass window of the coffee shop on the corner of east third and first avenue? If the cars were still parked there instead of the bike lanes - they would have absorbed the crash. Now, there's nothing protecting people in the stores. This crazy mayor has removed ab two lanes from all the Avenues by putting up dividers and bike lanes etc. In a mass evacuation - people would be stalled for miles and miles. Sigh. Anyway, careful with those lazers. Do NOT shine them into the animal's (or your) eyes. They can blind. But yes, they are a great toy for the cats especially. You hardly have to exert yourself either - just sit there shining the lazer all over as they chase the little red dot. LOLOL They love it too and it gives them great exercise. Only problem most those lazers burn out too fast. |

Angelhaunt told you the truth. You won't hear it though. You just don't WANT to get it.
Of course there is such a thing as taking responsibility for one's self - but then again, there is reality to contend with and the reality is that a PERSON CAN ONLY DO WHAT THEY'RE ABLE TO DO. If you knew from past experience that if you abandoned your home during a storm that when you returned, everything would be either gone or destroyed - I bet you too would think twice before splitting. How many times were hurricanes predicted and NOTHING happened? And the mayor WAS in a large part responsible for a lot of people not being evacuated. Save up a thousand dollars for emergencies eh? LOLOLOL. |
I guess having a car available to you makes you not understand that if someone has no car - it is not so simple to evacuate. And no, you're wrong - a LOT of people had NO transportation provided to them. Meanwhile, a lot of people who DID evacuate wind up in the superdome with no food, water or bathroom facilities.
You amaze me sometimes. You're such a conservative. You're not even in sinc with your own religion. |

Dear All, Good Evening!,
Yeah Grimm, first of all most of those folks didn't choose to live there to begin with . . . it's where they got stuck and they could not "get out of the ghetto" . . . and saving up for the "hurricane fund" seems mighty unnecessary when you've got babies to feed and not many pennies whatsoever . . . to a middle class person what you're saying makes sense but putting away a thousand in case of emergency is just plain impossible for the dirt poor . . .
If you live in an area that you know is prone to Hurricanes and you know you don't have resources to use when a hurricane eventually hits there, then why the heck are you living there in the first place??
Let me answer that for you...because if a hurricane comes, the government will take care of me. Now you see Angel, there is no personal responsibility involved anymore, someone will take care of me even though I continue to tempt fate and live in a place that is below sea level and prone to flooding. |
Hey Grimm, were there free hotel rooms provided in Texas etc.? . . . don't think so . . . you have to have money for accomodations for two or three nights or more . . . can't just camp out in an alley . . . especially if there's tens of thousands of others doing the same . . .

I have "Tunnel Vision" and you don't....riiight!
First of all, a week before Katrina hit, or any major hurricane hits, the residents in the area it will hit are warned of a hurricane coming their way and of the severity of it. Waiting for the last minute to make plans to try to escape it is idiotic especially if you have lived through such storms before as most residents of Louisiana and the rest of the Gulf coast states have. Second of all, in the case of Katrina, not only were there warnings, but there was transportation available for all to take advantage of. There were buses provided, trains and of course personal autos for those that had them. So the resources were there and not used. Thirdly, some of the reasons the resources were not used was people didn't want to leave their homes, the Mayor as your post indicated did not declare it mandatory to evacuate in time for the people to do so (as evidenced by the pictures of dozens upon dozens of school buses in parking lots under water, and one of the main reasons was the people that were affected most have been so conditioned to depend on the government taking care of them that they would not even attempt to help themselves but would rather wait on the government to do for them what they could have done for themselves. I am sorry Annie but it don't really take that much in resources to get away from the coast for a few hours until the storm blows over. Staying behind because of fears that your property would be destroyed or stolen is placing your priorities more of things than life. |

I didn't realize how bad it was. Holy shit. Right on the corner of my block, a cab careened off the road and through the plate glass window of a very popular yuppie hang out - "The Bean" which is a coffee/computer shop.
Wow. Now, if they had things as they used to be - the cars parked on the side of the road would have prevented this from happening but now that there's bike lanes and cars are parked nearly in the middle of the street - there was nothing to stop this. [www.ny1.com] |
